ATOMIC WEAPONS ESTABLISHMENT, BURGHFIELD, UNITED KINGDOM
   
 



The Atomic Weapons Establishment is responsible for the design, manufacture and support of warheads for the United Kingdom’s nuclear deterrent. The Atomic Weapons Establishment is tasked to help the United Kingdom maintain a credible and effective minimum nuclear deterrent.

CHALLENGES

The Atomic Weapons Establichment is considered to be one of the highest security sites in the United Kingdom and needs to be protected accordingly.

The requirements of the installation include a 10 metre “dead man zone” with anti-climb fence posts used as camera mounting posts and extra heavy gauge wire mesh which had not previously been manufactured in the United Kingdom.

SOLUTIONS

To assure adequate security levels were achieved, fence posts were manufactured electric fence system ready with significant approval and test processes carried out.

To Protect against the harsh environmental conditions, a heavy duty galvanising finish was applied to all fence components and job work.

In total, 8000 metres of Super Height Security fencing, 258 metres of SecureGuard Mesh and 3000mm high complete with Electic Fence were used.
